Overnight Las Terrazas & Viñales... in Old-American Car including time to take a bath in San Juan River!

Day 1: Havana – Las Terrazas - Viñales

The guided tour starts at 8:00 in the morning.

At just 51 km from Havana you will find “Las Terrazas” in “Sierra del Rosario” declared a biosphere reserve by UNESCO in 1985. Crossed by the San Juan River, the area is home to abundant, varied fauna: 90 species of birds as well as many different reptiles and amphibians. The walks here are lovely on paths lined with flowers, including wild orchids.

Most of the farmers in the Sierra live in communities founded by a government programmer in 1968. The name of “Las Terrazas” derives from the terraces laid out for the pine trees that are now a characteristic feature of the area.

After to get the permission for entrance to “Las Terrazas” at the Bureau of the Ecological Research you will visit the restored “Buena Vista” coffee plantation where you will see the different process to get the coffee. The second stop of this tour will be the community with more than 1000 inhabitants who make a living by maintaining the woods and from ecotourism. If you enjoy testing your limits, Las Terrazas Complex can offer you the spectacular adventure ride you’re looking for: The Canopy Tour. This one consists of five platforms held up by wooden towers of various heights and connected by steel cables which will take you on a downhill trajectory 1600 meter-long. A once in a lifetime opportunity to get a bird’s eye view of the Las Terrazas Community, accompanied by a local guide.

The tour continues with the visit to San Juan River, where you will have time to take a bath in its crystalline waters and enjoy a Cuban lunch. Free time to relax until 5:00 in the afternoon.

Transfer to Viñales, on route stop at the Viewpoint Los Jazmines to see a unique landscape with its dramatic limestone flat topped mountains called “Mogotes”, the characteristic, gigantic karst formations that resemble sugar loaves are like stone sentinels keeping watch over the corn of tobacco fields, the red earth with majestic royal trees and the farmhouses with roofs of palm leaves.

The tour continues with a short panoramic ride to the Viñales’s downtown, a quiet and pleasant little town.

Accommodation in a private home with breakfast included. Free night to enjoy the beauty of the town. Dinner on your own.

Day 2: Viñales - Havana

After breakfast, you will be pick up by local guides to get a beautiful horse ride per 2 hrs around "Los Mogotes" including the visit to a farmer’s house where you will learn the production of the tobacco, including a visit to a tobacco plantation and a drying location. Taste a nice tobacco.

The tour continues with the visit to the Indian Cave, the first part of the tour here is on foot through tunnels with artificial lighting, then a small motorboat takes you up the underground of the San Vicente river for about a quarter of a mile.

Lunch at a local restaurant.

Next stop will be The Prehistory Mural. On the face of a mogote the Cuban painter Leovigildo Gonzales, a pupil of the famous Mexican artist Diego Rivera, painted the historic of evolution (1952-62), from Ammonites to Homo sapiens.

The Mural was restored in 1980, making use of the cracks in the rock to create special effects of light and colour.
